Objectives of the Artist Support Scheme
The objective of this scheme is to assist individual artists to develop their arts practice and artistic career. The scheme is open to professional artists living in County Galway at all stages of their career, working in any artform and context. Deadline for applications is 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday 28 February 2024.
Artists may apply for support with:
- Research, development or presentation of new work that will have a significant impact on the applicant’s career.
- Short-term mentorship or continued professional development supports that offer a demonstrable benefit to the artist’s practice. This can include participation on short-term courses, residencies, specialist workshops, mentorships etc. It is not intended to fund undergraduate third level or on-going study.
- Materials, exhibition costs, equipment hire and fees towards third party expertise. These costs must be intrinsic to the creative process or to the production and dissemination of the proposal.
Assessment Criteria:
- Artistic merit and track record of the applicant.
- Quality of the proposal.
- Financial and project feasibility.
- Benefit to the applicant’s practice.
- Adherence to the Artist Support Scheme guidelines.
A shortlisting process may be put in place if we receive a large number of applications.
How much may I apply for?
The maximum award offered is €3,000 and awards are often made for smaller amounts. Please note that the average award made under this scheme in 2023 was €2,364. The total fund available for 2024 is €28,000.
Timeframe
Funding must be used between April and October 2024. Successful artists will need to complete the proposal, submit a final report and drawdown their final payments in November.
Supporting material must include:
- A detailed up-to-date artistic CV of the person applying for funding. CV should be no longer than 3 pages and contain the following information: professional history, relevant employment history, 3rd level education history, qualifications and awards.
- Up to 6 good quality examples of your previous work, such as writing (max 10 page extracts), images, URL links to video recordings/sound/media files, through YouTube, Vimeo, or SoundCloud. Submit examples that best represent your current practice and your capacity to deliver your proposal. All support materials must be saved and submitted as pdf or word documents.
Who is eligible to apply?
This award is open to all professional practising artists, in all artforms and contexts. To be eligible to apply the applicant must live in County Galway.
Who is not eligible to apply?
- Anybody living in Galway City
- Undergraduate students
- Anybody currently in full-time education
- Anybody who received funding from this scheme in 2023
You may not apply for:
- Full-time undergraduate education or post-graduate education.
- International travel.
- Activities which are not in keeping with the objectives of the award.
- Initiatives which form part of a competitive, charitable or fundraising context.
- Capital purchases like studio furniture, tools and equipment.
- Proposals that are the same as another applicant where you are collaborating on a project together.
Incomplete applications will be ineligible.
